RESEARCH INTERESTS AND COLLABORATIONS

My research interests are mainly focused on preparation and characterization of materials for energy applications or environmental remediation; most of the projects were conducted with an electrochemical approach through different research fields or applications.
I extensively studied the modification of 3D porous and metal foam electrodes for several applications, from nitrate reduction to hydrogen evolution, alcohols oxidation and gas phase catalysis. In particular, I applied galvanic displacement techniques to modify non noble supporting metals with noble metal with known catalytic activity; we studied the effect of deposition parameters on kinetics and morphology for several couple of noble-non noble metals. I contributed to develop processes to prepare materials based on oxygen or hydrogen bubble template electrodeposition for both, environmental remediation and sensing. I worked on the preparation of silver nanoparticles supported on metal and carbon felts to obtain electrocatalysts for dechlorination of herbicide and their metabolites. I contributed to study mechanism of the galvanic exchange reactions between oxides that led to electrodes for oxygen evolution showing performances in terms of overpotential comparable to literature benchmark.
More recently, I prepared nanostructured materials as porous and/or thin films and I tested them toward the electrochemical conversion of CO2, we reported for first about a ceria effect on the mechanism of CO2 reduction reaction. I am interested in studying effect of interaction between support and active phase in CO2 conversion electrocatalysts, especially on metal and metal oxides nanoparticles supported on carbon materials.
Participating in different projects, I collaborated with researcher from different institution around the world: Centre de Recherche Paul Pascal of CNRS- Bordeaux, Université de Rennes, Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Rennes, Universitat Politècnica de València, Keio University – Tokyo, Università di Palermo, Università di Bologna and several CNR institutes.
