The SMA and MagneticSMA alloys are promising material for caloric effect and solid state refrigeration induced by different kind of field: magnetic, mechanical, electric and so on. The possibility to induce during the field their peculiar Thermoelastic Martensitic Transformation (TMT) open the route to increase considerably the entropy change involved and to have giant effect. Each caloric effect (principally elastocaloric and magnetocaloric) could be obtained in separated way or in combination in view of a multicaloric more efficient approach.
In the Unit of Lecco we work about the development and optimization of SMA and MSMA in NiMn-based composition by different preparation process and thermo-mechanical routes.
Besides complete physical and functional characterization, we developed experimental ad hoc set-up for direct measurements of DT and innovative magneto-mechanical coupling in mechanical test at different temperatures
