SUSTAINABILITY TRANSITION

Environmental Monitoring & Remediation

ACTIVITIES:

  • Application of a novel coastal exposure assessment approach on the Bonassola bay
  • Superhydrophobic coatings can be obtained from recyclable materials for protection in sea environment
  • Development of portable laser-based instruments for real-time measurements of pollutants at the exhaust of combustion systems and in the environment. Concentration and chemical characterization of Black Carbon and heavy metals via laser-induced incandescence (LII) and laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS).
  • Synthesis and characterization of effective- (supported) photocatalysts for water remediation against emerging and persistant pollutants
  • Antifouling and anticorrosion superamphiphobic coating for protection in marine environment
  • The study of the combination of alloys, compact and porous, can highlight the capability of some of these binary systems to guarantee lower overvoltage of activation for electrochemical conversion of pollutants (e.g. nitrate) in valuable species (e.g. ammonia) or harmless molecules (e.g. molecular nitrogen)
  • Different porous and compact alloys were prepared by electrodeposition and were tested for the electrochemical conversion of pollutants (e.g. nitrate, nitrite) in valuable species (e.g. ammonia) or harmless molecules. Ru-based catalysts, prepared by electrodeposition and/or galvanic exchange, were prepared and tested for methanation of CO2 in gas-phase; the obtained results confirmed good activity.
  • Electrodeposition of Ni−Rh Alloys and their Use as Cathodes for Nitrate Reduction
