BIOGRAPHY

Sara is a research fellow at the CNR-ICMATE in Genoa since 2023. She holds a strong scientific background in chemistry, earning her MSc in Chemical Sciences in 2020 from the University of Genoa, with a specialization in solid-state chemistry applied to materials and energy. She completed her PhD in Sciences and Technologies of Chemistry and Materials in 2024, at the same institution, with a thesis titled “Structural and spectroscopic study on bulk rare earth oxides for energy applications, under temperature and pressure effects”.

Sara’s research focuses on the design, preparation, and characterization of novel ceramic materials for solid oxide cells operating at intermediate temperatures. During her studies and her research activity, she became proficient in a wide range of techniques, from standard lab-scale methods for the preparation (sol-gel and co-precipitation synthetic protocols, electrospinning, button solid oxides cells preparation) and the characterization (scanning electron microscopy, micro-Raman spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy) of ceramic materials, to more sophisticated techniques involving the use of synchrotron light (x-rays absorption spectroscopy, high-pressure x-ray diffraction, pair distribution function studies). She also took part in several studies aimed at detecting the presence of microplastics in the human urinary apparatus.
